This and That from the life of brand new law student. There will be a smattering of legal happenings, too much shopping, a healthy appreciation for all things pearls and preppy and gratitude for innumerable blessings.
Are you all as obsessed with Lonny magazine as I am?
As soon as I learned that Lonny = LONdon & New York I was in love and a scroll through its pages certainly did nothing to dissipate that initial attraction. From the spread on Ivy League style to the piece of restoring heirloom chairs (or the second hand pieces I've lifted from my parents' basement) to the budget style article, to Caitlin McGauley's beautiful (breathtaking) water colors it is a magazine after my own heart. It is simply page after page of great idea and fantastic eye candy.
As devoted fan of Blueprint and Domino, this is the magazine I've been waiting for!
When I think of Christmas music this is the first tune to come to mind. Love it.
2) Snoopy v. The Red Baron
I adore the Peanuts' holiday specials (is it even Halloween if you don't watch the It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown?) and the chorus of this song never fails to get stuck in my head. It's an instant smile.
3) Do They Know its Christmas Time at All
These songs will be at the very top of my itunes playlist as I begin to prep for finals! What has you in the holiday spirit?

I hope everyone had wonderful, relaxing and gracious holidays. I had a wonderful few days at home with my family. The best part? I got to table my law school work/studying and take time to enjoy my family and my surroundings.
In the spirit of being thankful, I took some time to appreciate the incredible city that I call home. So, I decided to spend some time in Central Park (lovely weather and great fall foliage for a few more days) and wandered to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Met was hosting an exhibit based on Vermeer's The Milkmaid.
I studied Vermeer as part of a Dutch Art class I took while abroad and had gotten the chance to see The Milkmaid in the Rijksmuseum. However, I wanted to go and take in the exhibit which featured 6 Vermeer's ( a sizable percentage of his known body of work) in addition to work by contemporaries. In addition to the exhibit I stopped by the European paintings gallery to visit La Vista de Toledo (my all time favorite painting) and the Met's Christmas tree.
What a nice way to spend a morning and reminder how fortunate I am to be in New York.
A few weeks back my mother surprised me with a set of Frog earbuds from Pottery Barn Kids. I'm pretty sure she meant them strictly as a joke but it turns out that they are much more comfortable than run of the mill standard issue earbuds. Heck, they're even more comfortable than the specialized ones I bought last summer. Now, perhaps, I just have a small ear canal (which seems like a gross thing to type) and the child size is just right.
So, I've been using them when I wouldn't being seeing people whom I knew. But yesterday, I popped them into my ears and set off for the train. As luck would have it I bumped into a friend (from grammar school) I haven't seen in years. What was I rocking? The frog earbuds. Somehow I think they may have undermined my credibility as a future lawyer.
In the holiday spirit, today I'll share my top Thanksgiving traditions!
1) "Memory Makers"
When my siblings and I were younger my mother would bring us to visit our Aunt M. who works at Veteran's Nursing Home. Since we'd been visiting since birth we had no fear of the maimed and wheelchair bound old men. In fact my little sister T. loved to climb on one particular gentleman's fake legs and knock them to make a hollow sound. The men didn't get many visitors and certainly not many young children. So, we started making a special effort to come on Thanksgiving and to take photos of the men and their visiting families so that they could have a memento to keep in their rooms and share with the other residents. We still go over year and it's still a great tradition.
2) Christmas Music
I don't let myself starting listening to Christmas music until Thanksgiving, you have to give the turkey his day, but 8:00 on Thursday night my radio will be tuned to the 24 hour Christmas station!
3 Cranberry Sauce.
I can't stand turkey (my mother makes ham for me) and anything pumpkin flavored makes me gag but the one traditional Thanksgiving food that gets me excited is cranberry sauce! I love it! I'll take the ocean spray jellied style straight from the can or a tart whole berry homemade relish studded with walnuts, in fact, I'll even eat them straight out of the salad. Yum!
I'm in the process of registering for classes and I'm an a bit of a an impasse. I only have space for one class-class (the other credits are being used in a clinic and as a student moot court editor) next semester and I'm just lost on what to take. I was always the girl who took 18-21 credits a semester in college because there were so many classes I was interested in. Now, I'm limited to just 16 credits so...what's the one law school class that you loved? Or felt was essential to your education? Help me out!
As an FYI: I've taken contracts, torts, civ pro, legal writing, property, con-law, crim law, corporations, federal criminal law.
Welcome! I'm a law student who's often more interested in Lilly and Louis than in legal procedure. I'm East Coast born and breed but ventured into the Midwest for college at Notre Dame where I met the most amazing people and had the most incredible time. For now I'm having an absolute ball in Manhattan but who knows where my next adventure is? One thing I do know? I'll greet it wearing pearls and polo!
