It cracks me up

I was wondering just a few weeks ago why they never made a new commercial. Now it seems that they did, only it looks more than a little familiar.

Circa 1995:

The new one:

It's so weird that even cast look a like actors!

At the Movies

Recently, a few of my friends and I decided to put the books aside and head to the movies. Against our better judgement, at the request of one or our group, we decided on Amelia.

Now, I typically have a minimum 2.5 star according to Roger Ebert rating system with blatant chick flicks as the sole exception, because he can't be expected to appreciate them anyway, for movies I'm seeing in the theater. However, my friend's undying love of Ewan McGregor won out.

I hate to say it but it was disappointing. There wasn't really a consistent story, just flight after flight after flight so they're couldn't be much character growth. I'm sorry but with a gender-barrier-breaking lead, 1930's society, a passionate affair, and a tragic mystery and you can't tell a good story? Then you're not trying hard enough.

Hilary Swank was great. You completely forgot it was her. Her accent and mannerisms were spot on and the costumes were fabulous. So, I guess you can say I was in it for the eye-candy too. I loved the different gowns, pantsuits, and jumpsuits they had here in. Such a beautiful time period.

Today I'm thankful for all the Veteran's who have so honorably served our great country and for all men and woman currently in the armed services. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Triple "T" - Thankful

Because I'm a little behind the ball on the 27 days of Thankful posts, I thought that I'd dedicate Tuesday Top Things (I really dislike typing this out because "thing" sounds so distasteful. Any "T" suggestions?) to a few items I'm currently thankful for.

1) Hot Cocoa.

I'm not a coffee person. Sure, I'll drink it if it's what's available but given the option I always choose hot chocolate or hot cocoa. Most nights, once the air is chilly, I make it from my own recipe. I mix a heaping spoonful of Droste cocoa powder with light coconut milk and a tiny bit of splenda. It's not very original but it's delicious, even without any sugar! The coconut milk doesn't add a coconutty flavor at all but is isn't creamy than skim milk or water and slightly sweet.

2) How I Met Your Mother -seasons on dvd.

I LOVE this show. I got hooked my senior year when my friend C. lent me her dvds. I then proceeded to graduate and become a first year law student which means zero time for tv watching. Now as a second year, I've rediscovered this gem of a comedy. And at on about 24 minutes a commercial free episode they're the perfect mini-distraction when I want a study break. It's also a live goal, to yell "lawyered" after winning an argument à la Marshall on the show.

3) The GORGEOUS weather we're being treated to in the Northeast.

It was 72 degrees yesterday! Sure, the sun may be setting at 4:38 pm but who can complain when it feels like mid-May? As much as I love the Fall and appreciate crisp air, I'll never turn down 72 degrees and sunny.

I'm loving all of your great thankful posts and I'm continually impressed by how creative and thoughtful they are! Very inspiring!

The Cat Came Back*

** Do you all know that song? "The cat came back the very next day. We thought it was goner but the cat came back the very next day. It just wouldn't stay away." I loved it as a little girl and would sing it all the time. I think we may have even had a cartoon about it but, come to think of it, it was all a light macabre. **

So, even though it isn't "the very next day" I'm officially back to blogging!

I'm so sorry to have disappeared suddenly (not that I think that my posts are the constants by which you set your watches or anything) but I just needed a little time to focus and I hate looking at stale posts, so away the blog went. But all that time I continued reading all of your lovely posts and I just missed this. I missed the chance to connect and everywhere I went I'd notice things and think "Gee, that would be a great blog post." So here I am.

To hop right onto the thankfulness theme:
Today, I'm thankful for understanding professors. The kind who care more about learning than grading curves and are willing to be flexible on exactly how much the midterm should count in the overall grade. Especially those accounting professors who realize that the reason I came to law school was because I like words and not numbers and are happy to help me out. Professors who really care about learning, and not about education social politics are the best part of school.

Bright Spot

Is it only Wednesday? Really? Really. Suffice it to say the law school and life have been a bit overwhelming/frustrating over the past few weeks and it all kind of came to a head this week. Nothing terrible but annoying. I like my life cheerful and sunny, thank you very much.

So when my friend J. suggested dinner and movie for tonight I JUMPED on it. Dinner, I don't need to make? Sign me up! A movie with a friend? Even better! So, after classes and journal meetings today I'm off to see Bright Star . Now, I'm not really any Abbie Cornish fan (I have Reese Witherspoon related issues) but I love a good costume drama and couldn't be more excited that I could wrangle J. into seeing it with me.

Wise Words

My brother K. is apparently plotting a life of crime. He explained to my mother that he has two well-educated lawyers for sisters (presumably his potential career as a criminal was commencing upon my successful graduation) and that they would simply get him off.

My mother than volunteered that while we would do our best, they fact that he had actually committed the crime might be an issue. K. disagreed and argued that a good lawyer (good does not equal ethical in his 17 year old mind) would be able to win without ever bringing up the issue of guilt (he might have a point, albeit an unscrupulous one). This then prompted K. to inquire which sister was smarter. My mother, ever the diplomat, told him that we had different strengths but that together we'd be an excellent lawyer (ideally, we're both excellent lawyers separately as well) she finished by commenting that one day we could have a firm together (dream the dream, mother).

K's response? "They'd never get anything done! They'd be too busy arguing with each other." Shakes head and walks away.

Sad but true. E. and I are too different/similar to ever work together. On the upside, maybe our inability to double-team might have put a hold on K's life of crime.
